Historical

Records show that John Langmaid built the Stagecoach House around 1815, the first hotel to be used by passing stagecoaches. It was in this hotel, a few years later, that Langmaid built his house. He lived there for many years.

Carleton Ayer established the first post office in 1864, which was part of the hotel until 1884. In 1897 the Ayer family sold the property where the Ayer's Cliff Inn is located today to Mr. Llewellyn Trussell. It is presumed that a hotel, formerly known as The Cliff House, had been rebuilt after a fire. Since that time the hotel has had several owners.

On July 22, 1956, the young Coulombe family arrived at Ayer's Cliff. Already owner of a hotel in West Shefford (Bromont), they bought the New Cliff House when the opportunity arose and took possession of it immediately. During all these years that they were owners, they gave special care to the hotel in order to maintain it and keep its original appearance.
